Socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani’s major victory in New York City showed a generational departure from the founding Democrats who combined behind former governor Andrew Cuomo.
But Democrats in Rank and File, who lost the White House and Congress in 2024 and disrupted the party, have already laid the foundations for post-Trump policies.
Neela Tanden, who served in the White House during the Clinton, Obama and the Biden administrations and testified to Congress last week about her use of autism during President Joe Biden’s presidency, is on the Project 2029 advisory board, along with Jake Sullivan, Biden’s former national security adviser.
Former Democrat speechwriter, National Leader and co-founder of the Liberal Policy Journal, Andrei Chernie is organizing Democratic leaders to create an agenda that can be implemented immediately for the next Democratic presidential candidate, inspired by the conservative “Project 2025” created by the Heritage Foundation ahead of President Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential victory.

The Democratic marquee legislative framework for future candidates will be unfolding over the next two years in quarterly installments through Cherney’s publication Democracy: Journal of Ideas. The Democrats plan to turn it into a book, just like Project 2025. Details of “Project 2029” were first reported by the New York Times and subsequently confirmed by Fox News Digital.
The main NYC upset signal of DEM socialists indicates “generational” change in the Democrats, strategists say
As the Times revealed Democrats’ political stage ownership for the next few years, the party’s calculations are unfolding in real time following Mamdani’s major victory last Tuesday. During the important speculation between the Democrats’ past and future, the institutional policy agenda emerged.
Mamdani’s major victory sparked progressive topics reminiscent of “Squad” leader MP Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s 2018 Democratic primary upset.
Both progressive leaders and self-proclaimed democratic socialists supported Mamdani ahead of last Tuesday’s New York City primary. Up until Election Day, they include fellow “squad” members (vices) of Ocasio-Cortez.

His victory shattered expectations, and Cuomo, who resigned as governor in 2021 amid multiple scandals, confirmed as soon as the polls were over. Cuomo remains in the race as independence along with Mayor Eric Adams, who is in office in his own scandal, but Mamdani’s victory marked a break from the establishment of the Democrats.
Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) faced its own calculations this year after 25-year-old progressive David Hogg announced a multi-million-dollar plan for leading incumbent Democrats he claimed to be “sleeping on the wheels.”
Hogg, who campaigned for the Mamdani in New York City, eventually left his position as vice-chairman at the DNC this year.
The central focus of the Democratic division between the past and the future is support for Israel.

Moderate New York Democrats aren’t fully supportive of Mamdani following his main victory last Tuesday. Party leaders, including Gov. Kathy Hochul, minority leader Haekum Jeffries and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, confirmed that they spoke to Mamdani and continued to support him.
Aside from his socialist promises and anti-capitalist comments, much of the Democrat’s complaints about Mamdani are rooted in accusations that he is anti-Semitic.
Last week, DN.Y. Rep. Laura Gillen said Mamdani was “too extreme to lead New York City.” She said he “exemplified a deeply disturbing pattern of unacceptable anti-Semitistic comments that he hates when anti-Semitism is rising.
Another New York Democrat, Rep. Tom Suzzi, said last week that he still had “serious concerns” about Mamdani.
The core of Mamdani’s accusations of being an anti-Semitic comes from her refusal to condemn the cry of “globalizing the intifadas.”

Mamdani refused to condemn the term. The term has been adopted by pro-Palestinian protesters who resist the war in Gaza and, according to the American Jewish Commission, “it calls for people all over the world to join in to stand up to Israel.”
Mamdani, who will become New York City’s first Muslim mayor if elected in November, says he does not support the police. In multiple interviews since he first sparked controversy on the campaign trajectory, he refused to condemn the language.
He also attracted criticism from Jewish New Yorkers, pro-Israel groups and Democrats for defending boycotts, divestment and sanctions movements.
When asked repeatedly during the discussion stage, Mamdani refused to acknowledge that Israel has the right to exist as a Jewish state. Instead, he said Israel has the right to exist as a “state with equal rights.”
On October 13, 2023, six days after the Hamas terrorist attack, Mamdani asked his supporters to join him at a rally outside Schumer’s house, in order to oppose the indiscriminate murder of Palestinians, when they sat on the brink of geno-sizedness.

However, despite criticism, Mamdani repeatedly denounced anti-Semitism.
“Anti-Semitism is a very real issue in this city and it was hard to see it weaponized by candidates who seemed to have no real interest in addressing it.
Mamdani did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
