In Los Angeles’ Vermont Vista neighborhood, New Year’s celebrations turned into illegal street occupations involving fireworks explosions and dangerous stunts.
Video recorded early Wednesday morning showed spectators and drivers gathering at the intersection of Imperial Highway and Hoover Street.
At one point, a white sports car was doing donuts near a lit firework when it exploded, sending sparks into the air and possibly into the crowd.

The explosion set off alarms in several cars and the sports car hid behind a wall of smoke.
In other vehicles, spectators jumped to avoid moving vehicles, and passengers were seen hanging out of windows and suffering burnouts.
It is unclear how long the takeover lasted or whether anyone was arrested.
