The South Carolina representative and co-founder of the Freedom Caucus has been charged with federal charges after allegedly using a Biden-themed account on a messaging app to share child sex abuse material.
According to the South Carolina Attorney’s Office, the Federal Ju judge in Greenville, South Carolina recently returned a 10-count indictment against Robert John “RJ” May III, a Republican from Lexington.
According to court documents, in April 2024, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a cyberchip from the social messaging app Kik and flagged several videos with the username “Joebidennnnnn69” that includes child sexual abuse.

Investigators reportedly connected their accounts to their home IP address and mobile device in West Columbia in May, according to a statement from the US Lawyer’s Office for the South Carolina area.
Officials have discovered at least 10 videos depicting child sexual abuse shared from their accounts, officials said.
State reports say he was arrested at his home on Wednesday in May.

The 38-year-old will comply with any prison sentence in the face of a minimum of five years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release of at least five years.
May, the father of two young children, will be assigned to the Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs Committee.
The SC Freedom Caucus, which previously served as vice-chairman, called for his resignation from the House of Representatives.

“The Freedom Caucus in South Carolina stands firmly in the rule of law and child protection,” the statement said. “While no formal accusations have been made public yet, there are indications that these accusations are from child sexual abuse material. We expect these crimes to be heinous and will be fully investigated. We pray that justice is provided.”
The group said it has not been involved in running the Caucus since August 2024 when May was ousted from the group.

The case was investigated by a homeland security investigation, according to the US Lawyer’s Office.
All charges of the charges are merely charges and the defendant is presumed to be innocent unless proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt before the court, authorities noted.
