Exclusive – South Carolina Republican Rep. Nancy Mace, who has a large national profile, declared his candidacy for Gov. Palmetto on Monday.
“I’m running to put South Carolina first,” Mace, a three-term House member representing the state’s Lowcountry Coast Council district, said in a statement first shared with Fox News Digital.
Mace insisted that when she launched her campaign, she targeted what she called the state’s “weak leadership” and that “we can continue to do what we’ve always done.”
“Or you can chart a new course filled with common sense and bold policies to hold the South Carolina line,” she emphasized.

And Mace came up on the website of the newly launched campaign with a 10-point agenda called “a clear, conservative, common sense roadmap for rebuilding South Carolina from scratch”:
Mace continues to announce at a campaign policy event Monday morning in Charleston at South Carolina Public Military College and her alma mater, Citadel.
Mace enters the busy GOP Primary Field at the 2026 race and successfully completes the term-limited Republican governor of Henry McMaster, the longest-serving governor in Palmetto.
South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, Lt. Col. Pamela Evett and state Sen. Josh Kimbrell are all definitely seeking GOP nominations in the Red State. They declared Republican Rep. Ralph Norman a week ago his candidacy.

“We were on the front line and it was a two-person race, a two-person race between her and Wilson,” Mace said in a recent interview with Fox News Digital ahead of her launch.
And she said, “I’ll fight to the finish, and he’ll take out the South Carolina Attorney General, because he’s turning a blind eye to women and children and the state for a number of reasons. He might force me to do this.”

In a February bombing speech on the floor of a US home, Mace allegedly ignored evidence of sexual assault on her and other women. In her hourly speech, Mace accused four men of sex crimes, including her ex-fiance, and said she was among the victims.
Wilson vehemently denied Mace’s charges, saying at the time, “The allegation was never made to me – there’s no one in my office.”
Wilson argued in a statement in Fox News a week ago, “Nancy Mace is a liar who does anything to do to distract him from the liberal voting record. I have dedicated my civilian career to protecting my children.”
“Her attacks are, again, resolutely false and a distraction from her liberal agenda,” he added. “We need a governor who fights for our values, not someone who compromises them for political interests and social media clicks.”
And Wilson’s campaign highlighted that all sheriffs in Mace’s Congressional District have approved his campaign for the governor.
Republican Governor Henry McMaster, South Carolina’s longest-serving governor, is limited and cannot seek re-election in 2026.
She dropped out of high school at the age of 17 and worked at Waffle House before eventually becoming the first female graduate of the walled ramparts, winning a congressional election in 2020.
Mace, who worked on President Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, strongly criticized his actions surrounding the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol when 2020 supporters tried to overturn the Congressional certification of President Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election.

Trump supported a major challenger to Mace when he was on the verge of reelection in 2022, but she was successfully re-nominated and re-elected.
Mace later came to Trump’s defense after then-President Former was charged with mishandling confidential documents. And she supported Trump in the 2024 Republican presidential primary.
Trump’s grip on the GOP is stronger than ever, thanks to his 2024 victory to reclaim the White House in 2024, and his support in the GOP nomination race is extremely influential.
When asked if he could raise the president’s support, Mace told Fox News Digital, “If I try to gain his support, I’ll work very hard.”
And in the video launching her campaign, Mace used a clip where Trump calls her a “fighter” in her speech, adding, “When she puts her eyesight on something, it’s tough.”
Mace has been leaning hard on cultural issues in recent years. This leads accusations to prevent Delaware Democrat Sarah McBride, the first openly transgender member of Congress, from using women’s home toilets.

And Mace vowed to protect what she called “stop biological reality and radical gender agendas” at the launch of her campaign.

“No children were born with the wrong body. No boys belonging to a girl’s locker room. And teenage girls should not lose scholarships to boys in skirts,” she insisted. “I have already begun shutting down this awakening ideology at schools in South Carolina. I’ll do a lot more to break this abusive ideology and ship it out of state.”
