A Ventura County man was sentenced to prison Wednesday for torturing and killing his girlfriend.

Saul Nava, 24, of Thousand Oaks, was sentenced to 50 years and eight months to life in prison for the murder of Alicen Takachiescobar and the torture and kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend, who survived his abuse, according to the Ventura County District. sentenced. Law firm.

On Christmas Eve 2021, Nava beat and tortured Takacs-Escobar in his Thousand Oaks apartment for several days before calling authorities.

Arriving officers found the woman with injuries all over her body, extensive bruising, a large laceration to her head, and a new tattoo of “humiliating words” on her chest.

Nava was taken into custody at the scene.

Inside the apartment, authorities found a baseball bat, a hammer, a screwdriver and tattoo equipment used by Escobar.

According to court documents, a video taken hours before the woman’s death was found on the suspect’s cell phone showing Nava “teasing the woman and showing indifference to her worsening symptoms.” That’s what it means.

During the murder investigation, detectives identified Nava’s ex-girlfriend who survived her abuse. Nava first met the second victim when they were teenagers.

Investigators said the man then took her to his home, locked her in a closet and assaulted her. At one point, she tried to run away, but Nava spotted her and threatened her with a knife until she got into her car.

The victim was impregnated by Nava when she was 17 years old. Deputies said Nava punched her in the stomach and convinced her to have an abortion.

Authorities say he punched her in the face, strangled her and secretly filmed her having sex with him. The abuse finally ended in the summer of 2021, when Nava began dating Takacs-Escobar.

On October 15, Nava was found guilty by a jury of:

First degree murder Torture Kidnapping Aggravated mayhem Assault with a deadly weapon Possession of child pornography Three counts of bodily injury to current or former cohabitant/spouse

“The sentence handed down reflects the heinous nature of the defendant’s horrific acts,” said Senior District Attorney David Russell, who prosecuted the case. “While nothing will put the victim’s family back together again, this sentence will protect the community from criminals who tortured and abused vulnerable victims.”
