A Ventura County man has been arrested and charged with murder after his girlfriend was found dead in a hotel room.
Uriel Gamboa, 31, was charged Tuesday in the death of Aliyah Pitts, 24, of Sherman Oaks, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
On January 6, Gamboa called authorities to say he had killed his girlfriend in her room at the Palm Garden Hotel in Thousand Oaks. He also reportedly said he was “suicidal,” according to court documents.
Police were called to the hotel room just before 11 p.m., where they found the victim’s body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman’s cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma, possibly strangulation, the Ventura County Star reported. Prosecutors claimed Gamboa used “broken bottles and shards of glass” to kill his victims, according to documents obtained by the report.
Gamboa was found suffering from self-inflicted injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. He was taken into custody on January 10 after being discharged from the hospital.
On Wednesday, he was charged with murder, with special charges that the crime involved the use of a deadly weapon, resulting in serious bodily injury, and serious violence.
Arraignment is scheduled for February 10 in Ventura County Superior Court. Gamboa remains in custody without bail.
This incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Christopher Vorzimer at 805-384-4731 or Detective Nicole Grover at 805-384-4722.
