An Inland Empire police officer shot a woman after setting a car on fire at a gas station early Wednesday morning and charged her with a knife, authorities said.
The incident was reported at ARCO gas station at 1240 E. Washington Street around 12:20am Wednesday, according to the Colton Police Department. Officers were called to the scene with reports that a woman armed with a knife was trying to open the car door.
The officers arrived spoke with one of the reporting parties. The reporting party informed officers that the woman was in his car and refused to exit. Officers spotted a woman sitting in the driver’s seat of a Toyota Sequoia parked near a gas pump.

The officer approached the vehicle and ordered the woman to exit. She refused, police said, and the fire set the inside of the vehicle on fire.
She then left the car and approached the policeman, armed with a knife.
That’s when the police fired a woman. The officer shot her an unknown number.
The woman, who remained unidentified, was taken to a local hospital. She remained in danger as of Thursday morning, authorities said.
No other person was injured during the incident. The fire quickly disappeared and the knife was retrieved at the scene.
Both the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office will investigate the case. Additional details were not available immediately.
