A 20-year-old Bakersfield man was arrested early on New Year’s Eve after stealing a truck from a driveway and leading police on a multi-county chase.
According to the Simi Valley Police Department, residents in the 3000 block of Fletcher Avenue awoke around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday to the sound of a pickup truck starting in their driveway.
“Upon investigation, he discovered the truck was missing and there was broken glass in the driveway,” SVPD said in a release. “You could hear the truck’s distinct exhaust sound from several streets away.”

The truck, described as a black and white RAM with temporary license plates, was spotted a short time later by Simi Valley Police Department officers on eastbound Highway 118. The driver attempted a traffic stop but refused to yield, and officers began a pursuit.
The pursuit continued east into Los Angeles County and ended when the driver lost control at the 118 Freeway to Interstate 405 transition ramp, police said. Photos included in the SVPD release show the truck halfway over a concrete barrier.
