A Brea police officer shot and killed what he believed to be a drunk driver Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
According to the Blair Police Department, just before 4:45 p.m., officers received a report of a possible drunk driver in the area of Lambert Road and the 57 Freeway.
Officials said responding officers found a vehicle “squeezed against a retaining wall” in the westbound lanes of Lambert on the east side of the highway.

“Officers contacted the driver.” [and] Shortly thereafter, an officer-involved shooting occurred,” Brea Police Department said in a media release posted on social media. “The driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead by medical staff.”

Video from the scene taken by KTLA shows the aftermath of the shooting. The deceased’s SUV was pinned between two police cars and there was a bullet hole in the driver’s side window.
There are also reports that the driver intentionally rammed into a police vehicle. However, Blair authorities did not mention this in the media release.
The exact circumstances of the shooting, including what prompted the officers to open fire, have not been disclosed. The identity of the deceased has also not been revealed.

In accordance with department policy, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office will conduct an investigation into this incident.
