The Inland Empire School District on Tuesday voted to ban trans athletes from competing in girls’ sports at local high schools.
The allegations were approved 3-2 in the Redland Unified School District during the board of directors described by the San Bernardino San as a “marathon.”
The approved resolution is dubbed “Girls’ innovative sports equity.”
As of Thursday, it is not clear whether trans athletes are currently competing in women’s sports in the district or have them in the past, but this means that new moves will not be possible in the future.
The push to ban trans athletes from women’s sports has been a controversial topic across the country. Opponents view the policy as discriminatory behavior against a small population of vulnerable youth.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 3.3% of high school students across the US identified as transgender in the latest 2023 study said that the population experienced “the spread of violence, suicidal ideation, behavior, unstable housing, and school connections lower than cisgender voyeurism.”

However, proponents of the ban cite concerns about the equity of women’s sports, as they believe that athletes who are assigned gender at birth may have biological benefits.
Last month, California Gov. Gavin Newsom took a surprising stance on the issue, calling it “deeply unfair” for athletes.
“I respect sports, so the issue of fairness is completely legal,” Newsom said.
Meanwhile, California politicians have rejected a bill banning trans athletes from girls’ sports at the statewide level in recent weeks.
