No, it wasn’t an earthquake. The sonic boom, triggered by the SpaceX cargo ship, rattled Los Angeles late on Saturday night.
Residents of the wide stripes of the area reported a big boom and rattle sensation around 10:45pm
According to an X’s post from Elon Musk’s Space Agency, the boom appears to be linked to SpaceX Dragon capsules that were re-entering the atmosphere.
“The Dragon will also announce its arrival with a short sonic boom before jumping down in the Pacific,” SpaceX posted about an hour before the boom was reported. The account said the capsule is set to create an entrance around 10:44pm

As SpaceX cargo ships lit up the night sky, a sonic boom was heard throughout Los Angeles.
The Sonic Boom has become a source of surprise for Southern Californians who live near Vandenburg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County. There, SpaceX and US Space Force personnel have acknowledged that rocket launches and landings are causing normal rattles.
Last year, military authorities rejected a call to reduce the boom in sound coming from SpaceX rockets in areas where frequency is increasing. The mask agent said it plans to launch more than 90 rockets from the base by 2026.
