A large SpaceX rocket intended for travelling the Moon and Mars exploded during ground testing in Texas on Wednesday night, the company confirmed.
In the strange footage that quickly spread multiple posts from X, a social media platform owned by Elon Musk, a social media platform owned by SpaceX CEO, the rocket explodes and explodes into flames. The explosion also reportedly sent amazing and incredible wavys to surrounding areas, shaking windows and rattling dishes.
“At about 11pm on Wednesday, June 18th, the spacecraft preparing for the 10th flight test experienced a major anomaly in the Starbase test stand,” SpaceX posted about the X. “There is no danger to residents of the surrounding communities.
The company added that the Starbase team is working with local officials to “safely protect the test site and its surrounding areas.”
As SpaceX shared in a statement, the explosion occurred while preparing for the 10th flight test for the 403-foot spacecraft, the world’s largest and most powerful rocket. Starship flights for both the seventh and eighth Test ended with an explosion.
Furthermore, according to the Associated Press, the ninth spacecraft test failed to achieve its primary objectives when the spacecraft became out of control and fell apart. Musk said in a post on X that the AP reported it was a “major improvement” from the two previous demonstrations.
“Starship has already been reserved by NASA for astronaut Moonlanding this past decade,” read the AP report. “The mask is going to use a mammoth rocket to calm Mars.”
