Did a big boom surprise you and your neighbor’s dogs on a Saturday night in Southern California? If so, you are not alone.

SpaceX reentered the atmosphere of spacecraft, dragons and Earth, and announced it had “splattered” off the south coast near Oceanside at about 10:44pm.

“The Dragon will also announce its arrival with a short sonic boom before jumping down in the Pacific,” SpaceX said in the X-Post.

SpaceX’s website says the Dragon is “the only spacecraft at the moment, the only spacecraft capable of returning a considerable amount of cargo to Earth, and the first private spacecraft to bring humans to the space station.”

On Sunday, March 3, 2024, lifted from Pad 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, and a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and dragon capsule will be seen with a four-person crew member on a mission to the International Space Station. 39A Sunday, May 21, 2023 at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Space Junk is threatening seven astronauts on the International Space Station and forcing them to search for shelter in docked capsules. US Space Command says it is tracking fields of orbital debris, an obvious result of several satellite splitting events. The astronaut retreated to a docked capsule on Monday, November 15th, 2021 after being informed of the threat. According to a report by NASA, an unwashed dragon spacecraft was fired on the Falcon 9 rocket that took off from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on April 21.

It landed on April 22nd, delivering about 6,700 pounds of crew, scientific research and equipment to the International Space Station, NASA said.

Then on Friday, SpaceX’s ground controller ordered the Dragon’s spacecraft to unlock from the Harmony Module port of the station to begin its return to Earth.

SpaceX said it had checked Dragon’s “Splashdown” at 10:46pm X post and filled out SpaceX’s 32nd Commercial Supply Service mission at the space station.
