On Friday, Figueroa was charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney with one felony of attempted murder, one felony of attempted murder, one felony of possession of a firearm with a previous violent conviction, and one felony of possession of a firearm by a previous convicted felon.
The motivation behind the fatal shooting remains unknown.
Clark was described by her loved ones as a caring woman dedicated to helping students.
“We’re in ruins,” her family said. “Kameisha’s life was taken away from us too quickly by the meaningless act of violence that women must endure. She was a wonderful person who didn’t deserve this.
Clark grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from Clark Atlanta University, where he earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate in education.
Her family said they wanted justice to face her death and the consequences that the suspect deserves for him.
“Students, faculty, or employees should feel safe and secure in school,” said LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman. “This horrifying act of gun violence has shaken up the University of Spartan and our entire community.”
Hochmann said Figueroa is a convicted felon who is not legally permitted to own a firearm. He has been charged with strengthening several gun sentences.
“Our minds came out in our family and this should never have happened,” Butts said. “It’s a scary example of workplace violence. It’s a tragedy for schools, for families. Two wonderful people have been so hurtful.”
Figueroa was scheduled to be arrested Tuesday. If convicted, he faces life in prison. He is being held on $5 million bail. An arrest hearing is scheduled for May 29th.
