Winter is officially behind us, and so is cool temperatures, apparently, as the National Weather Service predicts a “significant warm-up” in the days that will rise in the 90s by Monday.
Above average temperatures began on Friday – the second day of the spring season – was expected to peak early next week.
“For those who like warm temperatures, this is a welcome welcome,” said Brian Lewis, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard. “That would certainly be the warmest of the month.”
Downtown Los Angeles’ highs could reach over 86 degrees Monday, Lewis said. This time of year, it is usually lower in the 1970s.
In nearby coastal valleys, highs during this period could be above 20 degrees average during the low ’90s, Lewis said. The temperatures of the Inland Empire and deserts such as Riverside and Palm Springs could also climb in the 90s on Monday.
The rest of the area saw the highest prices in the 70s and 80s. This can be several degrees above average this time of year, Lewis said.
Lewis said high-pressure ridges, which are expected to settle in the area, are driving high temperatures.
“We will also be blowing winds north for the next few days. “It will help to make some of that heating worse.”
But by Wednesday, temperatures will start to drop again, but not very dramatic.
“It starts to cool towards the middle of this week,” Lewis said. “Unless you stay a little above it will get closer to normal.”
