Major House Democrats, including former speaker Nancy Pelosi and “squad” member Rashida Tribe, opposed the “cruel” cuts in the government’s Department of Efficiency, and called for the Trump administration not to “minorly cut Medicaid” at healthcare rally outside the Capitol.
For weeks, Democrats have been pushing the narrative that the Trump administration is planning to significantly cut government health programs, including Obamacare, Medicare and Medicaid.
Hundreds of protesters joined the women’s rallies hosted by left-leaning groups, including the American Planned Parenthood Federation and National Nurse United in March.
During the meeting, Pelosi said: “They said they’d abolish and replace the Affordable Care Act. In fact, the guy in the White House said, ‘Obamacare sucks.’

“They say they want to cut down on waste, fraud, abuse. We’ve been doing that all the time. We’re watching. We know what we’re doing,” she said. “We fire half of the people in the Ministry of Education. It’s not waste, fraud, abuse. It’s brutal.”
She also condemned the ongoing budget bill passed by House Republicans this week.
“What they did with the bill that passed the house last night was dishonorable, and it was harmful and fatal for some people,” she said.
Pelosi said Democrat leadership is planning to drive a nationwide messaging to “save Medicaid.”

“Next week, our leadership under our leadership Hakeem Jeffries and Catherine Clarke will welcome one word nationwide, one word, ‘Medicaid’,” she said.
Tlaib, who represents Detroit, accused the Trump administration and Republicans of wanting to cut health care to provide tax cuts to billionaires.
“Here they choose billionaires and businesses over the people they are supposed to represent,” she said. “Republicans want to hit a $4.5 trillion tax cut for billionaires and profitable businesses, not millions.
“I know I have a colleague who says, ‘There’s no word Medicaid in this budget proposal.’ Yes, we are not stupid. “It’s clear to me that they like to make a profit before people, and to pay for these tax credits, they want to separate their health care from millions of families. That’s shameful.”
