After a report in the Daily Mail, citing a “well-placed” source close to Steve Bannon, he claims he is preparing for the 2028 presidential run, with the former Donald Trump’s former chief strategist taking a two-word response.

“Trump 2028,” Bannon said in response to reports seeking political advice for potential runs. The report also claimed Bannon was the top candidate to run for presidency on GOP tickets in 2028, as a personal, lightly paraded vice president.

Sources in Bannon’s inner circle said Daily Mail Bannon repeatedly said he didn’t think Vance would be difficult enough to run in 2028.

However, this week, President Trump said that JD Vance is likely his successor. He added that Secretary of State Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio would create a horrifying ticket, noting that it was “too early” to discuss the issue.

“I think JD Vance will be a great candidate if he decides to do it,” Rubio said in an interview with Lara Trump.

Bannon’s two-word correspondence was published by conservative news outlet The National Pulse. This blasted Daily Mail for a “thin story,” claiming that the article is an effort to drive division within the Republican Party.

“All I’m doing is going back to President Trump and try to move the populist agenda and the first American agenda. I don’t think I’m a politician,” Bannon told Politico in March. Bannon also described the concept of him running for president as “absurd.”

In April, Bannon told News Nation there were “many different options” that allowed Trump to circumvent constitutional term restrictions. In another interview, I pointed out that they were looking at those alternatives in the same month as “We have a team.”

Three days after Trump’s 2025 inauguration, R-Tenn. Rep. Andy Ogres has introduced constitutional amendments that allow the president to serve his final term in his third term.

According to Congress.gov, the proposal was introduced to the House Judiciary Committee, but so far has not received any further consideration.
