The suspect was arrested after the man was found dead outside an Orange County library.
On June 2, Westminster police responded to an unresponsive man in the 8200 block of 13th Avenue in Westminster at 6:15pm
The victim, identified solely as a homeless man, was declared dead at the scene. No suspects were found nearby, but the death was investigated as a murder.
The evidence gathered helped identify James Metcalf, 54, of Westminster, as the main suspect, the Orange County Register reported.
Metcalf was already in police custody on suspicion of vandalism. Details were not provided as to how detectives linked Metcalf to the murder.
Metcalf was arrested earlier that day near the area where the body was later found, police told the OC register.
It is unknown whether the suspect and the victim are known to each other. No further details were released, including the identity of the victim or the nature of his fatal injury.
