Police said Wednesday that arson suspects were arrested on suspicion of launching four separate fires throughout Santa Monica earlier this month.
Marco Antonio Rubio, 36, is being charged with using the extent of the fire that began around 1pm on Sunday and aerosol cans to set them, Santa Monica police said in a news release. Ta. No one was injured in the incident.
Police said Rubio allegedly lit up abandoned pillows and cardboard in the 1000 block of Colorado Avenue and sparked abandoned mattress on 16th Avenue and Michigan Avenue. A vehicle parked in the 1500 block of 18th Avenue.
Investigators used air drone technology to find the suspect, police said.
Rubio was previously charged with resisting arrests in California and resisting arrests, domestic violence and assault-related crimes in Texas. Rubio acted alone in the Santa Monica fire incident and there were no arson-related incidents, said during Lewis Gilmore.
“The swift and coordinated response by our police and fire departments underscores our commitment to ensuring the safety of Santa Monica residents,” Police Chief Ramon Batista said in a news release. . “Through teamwork and advanced technology, we quickly identified suspects and prevented further harm.”
Rubio’s arrest comes after several makeshift fires erupted around Los Angeles County in the wake of the devastating Palisade and the Eton wildfire.
Police are encouraging residents to report suspicious behavior immediately.
