Four people accused of smuggling about 20,000 undocumented immigrants from Guatemala to the United States, including seven people who died in a car accident in Oklahoma in 2023, have been charged by federal authorities in Los Angeles.
The charges have been released against accusations that Eduardo Domingo Linoz Matur, Cristobal Mezia Charge, Hermer Obispo Hernandez and Jose Pakstoll Oxraj deemed one of the Torko organization’s accusation businesses.
Homeland Security Investigation Los Angeles’ Deputy Special Agent, Dwayne Angebrandt, said that since 2019, he has transported around 20,000 undocumented immigrants to the Los Angeles and the Phoenix area.
When smuggled into the US, they were taken to “hidden houses” in Los Angeles’ Westlake area and elsewhere. Authorities said smugglers remained on those sites until they were paid.
Ring suspects Renoj-Matul and Cristobal Mejia-Chaj were arrested Friday in the Westlake area. Each appeared in the court, where they were ordered not to be detained there.
If convicted, they could each face the death penalty, officials said. They were arrested Friday and ordered to endure trial on April 22nd.
