The shooter allegedly fired on border patrol agents outside a federal building in McAllen, Texas, has been identified by authorities as 27-year-old Michigan resident Ryan Louis Mosqueda.

An active shooter armed with tactical gear and rifles fired on Border Patrol agents as he arrived at the Border Patrol Annex in McAllen, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley on Monday. Law enforcement believes the attack is a deliberate ambush targeting Border Patrol officials.

At a press conference after the shooting, McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said he identified the suspected shooter as Mosqueda, allegedly fired at agents, and fired “many, dozens of rounds” at the building.

Rodriguez confirmed that the suspect was killed at the scene by an agent who returned the fire.

According to the police chief, there is no known motive as to why Mosqueda allegedly fired fire on Border Patrol agents.

He said the suspect was associated with a Michigan address and arrived at the scene driving a car at a Michigan plate. He also said the suspect’s car was spray painting in “some languages,” perhaps Latin.

According to Rodriguez, Mosqueda was reported missing from the nearby Weslaco address, saying, “an hour and a few minutes later, he was in this particular location and fired into a federal building.”

A spokesman for the FBI San Antonio said in a statement emailed to FOX News Digital that McAllen police received a shot call that was heard by a local border patrol facility near McAllen International Airport around 5:53am.

The spokesman said the armed suspect was “engaged with law enforcement officers responding to the scene and officers returned the fire,” which identified the armed suspect as an “adult man” rather than Mosqueda.

According to a spokesman, one of the corresponding officers was injured in the shooting and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The officers are currently in stable condition.

An FBI representative said there is “no threat to public safety as we know,” and said the investigation is ongoing.

Two officers and a Border Patrol employee were injured during the shooting, according to a statement by X’s DHS.
