Rep. Tom Suozzi of Dn.Y. says he disagrees with Zohran Mamdani about his position, but he says his fellow Democrats can learn something from democratic socialists.
“You have to realize that he’s used something,” Szzi said Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” “He slammed the same thing Donald Trump tapped, and that means people are worried that the economy isn’t working for them.”
The “democratic capitalist” he describes in the Wall Street Journal Op-Ed last week, Mamdani’s victory in the Democratic mayoral primary should be a “democrats’ call to wake up loudly.”
“Too often, Democrats are not perceived as focusing on affordability and the economy, the middle class, the middle class and their economic concerns,” Szzi told Wazia Zian, who had buried for Margaret Brennan.

“They think Democrats are primarily focused on reproductive rights and LGBT protection, which is an important issue, but it’s not a problem people think about every night when they’re thinking about paying bills or lying in bed talking about how to send their kids to school,” he continued.

Suzzi doesn’t believe Trump or Mamdani will be on the right path on those issues, but he said Democrats can learn to lean towards root issues.

“Everyone in America must believe that whether you’re a right-wing conservative or a left-wing progressive, you’ll make enough money to make you have a good life in return,” he said. “You can buy a house. You can educate your children. You can pay for your health insurance. You can retire one day without being scared. People don’t feel that at the moment.
