The fight against Pallisade and other fires may have ended, but the word war over affordable housing in Palisade, the Pacific, where fires have been damaged, has only begun.
As detailed in the Los Angeles Times, billionaire developer and mayoral candidate Rick Caruso has expressed concern about promoting the creation of more affordable homes from the ashes of fire and ruins of Parisades.
“Now is not the time for external groups that have no community ties to slow people’s ability to rebuild their homes by trying to impose an agenda,” Caruso told The Times.
However, one of Caruso’s companions thought up a little more on his previous Twitter, X.
Joe Lonsdale, founder of data analytics firm Palantir Technologies and executive at Caruso’s Wildfire Foundation Stastfast LA, shared the headlines for the conservative outlet Washington Examiner.
“Sorry, we won’t be rebuilding a flashy, burnt-out house in the LA ocean until a new crack nest is installed in the middle of our neighborhood,” he said.
How affordable housing, rent management, stabilization, and other housing crime-related issues are being handled has yet to be seen as local and state officials tackling the issue.
When it comes to managing Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass, her recovery emperor, developer Steve Soborov, told The Times that more apartments in Parisades could support, but that wasn’t his focus.
“We’re not rethinking,” Soborov said. “We’re rebuilding.”
