R-Tx. Senator Ted Cruz of the Federal Government has introduced a proposal to provide $1,000 for accounts to all American children.

According to a press release, the Invest America Act states that “creates a tax-advocated American account and makes a $1,000 seed investment from the federal government for all American children born.”

People can also add funds to their accounts.

US Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, spoke on March 3, 2025 in Washington, DC (Kayla Bartkowski/Getty Images) during a roundtable discussion on the “Take It Down Act” at the Capitol’s Mike Mansfield Room.

“Each Invest America account is open to donations from individuals, family, friends and businesses up to $5,000 a year,” the release states. “Account investments can be placed in a wide range of low-cost funds tracking the S&P 500, and are taxed until an individual is 18 years old. Distributions after age 18 are taxed at capital gains rates.”

Cruz’s proposal arises as the US national debt is more than $36.2 trillion and there is a high chance that he will continue to climb.

“Every child in America has private investment accounts that strengthen the prosperity and economic participation of the vast majority of Americans. Now, when people talk about the changes created by Republican efforts, this is one of the groundbreaking achievements they talk about,” Cruz said in a press release.

The House Ways and Means Committee is scheduled to mark up “The One, Big, Beautiful Bill” on Tuesday. The legislation under consideration includes a pilot program to provide a $1,000 “MAGA account” to children born over a period of time.

“The powerful thing is to enable every child in America to have an investment account and interest in the American free enterprise system,” Cruz said, according to Semafor.
