An 18-year-old was killed, six others were injured and their loved ones are devastated in a hit-and-run rollover crash in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday.
The fatal crash occurred shortly before 1 a.m. at the intersection of Broadway and Cesar Chavez Street near the Chinatown area.
The high-speed collision caused one vehicle to roll over and land on its roof, and a second vehicle was severely damaged.
Isaac Arellanes Jr., a passenger in the car that was struck by the suspect, was one of two people trapped in the wreckage and rescued by firefighters.
Arellanes was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The remaining six people were taken to hospital for treatment, two of whom remain in critical condition.
The suspect driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, leaving the injured passenger in the vehicle.

The boy’s grandmother, Sandra Torres, said Arellanes recently got a job at a bakery and is looking forward to starting the next chapter of his young life. His family told the Los Angeles Times that the teen was also the father of a young child.
“As a grandmother, I’m devastated,” Torres told KTLA’s Angeli Kakade. “He got a car, started college, and got good grades. His girlfriend is currently in the hospital with a broken bone and fighting for her life.”
Investigators have not said who was at fault, but witnesses believe speed was likely a factor in the accident.
Witness Ryan Cowell said the suspect “was speeding, almost like he was trying to catch up on the freeway.” “I pulled over in my wheelchair and immediately called 911.”
On Saturday night, a memorial filled with flowers, candles and heartfelt messages could be seen growing at the crash site. Loved ones who are in deep shock hope that the suspect will be arrested soon.
“You need to turn yourself in,” Torres said. “I left my wallet behind and it’s only a matter of time before the police catch me. Not to mention I left my passenger in the car in critical condition. Please do the right thing by turning yourself in. I killed my grandson.”
The suspect remains at large and has been charged with multiple charges, including vehicular homicide. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the LAPD at 1-877-527-3247.
