Get ready for a temperature roller coaster this week.
Angelenos could see the hottest day ever in 2025 on Monday, with the thermometer expected to rise in the 90s.
The heat in downtown Los Angeles is expected to reach 85-90 degrees, with San Gabriel, San Fernando and the Santa Clarita Valley likely to be even warmer. Temperatures in Woodland Hills could peak at 95 degrees Monday, said Robbie Munroe, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.
Fever may break daily records. The hottest record for March 24th was 89 degrees. “We’re good chances of breaking that,” Munro said. Burbank is expected to reach 90 degrees on Monday, and is shy about his daily records, he said.
Munro said it is expected to fall 20 degrees to about 70 degrees by Thursday after an early spike in the week. Los Angeles County’s desert and mountain areas remain hot and windy throughout the week.
Munro said the short sizzles are fueled by the high-pressure ridges at the peak and offshore flows that draw hot air from the mountains into the coastal area.
Along the Southern California coast this week, Munro said he expects high waves of 4-7 feet to be high due to strong winds and storms to the west and northwest.
Light rain could then be found in Los Angeles from March 30th to April 2nd, as a storm system works south along the central coastal area.
“It’s the question of how much that system makes it south,” Munro said.
