A speeding Tesla man and his passenger were killed Saturday when the car ran a red light in Fullerton, causing a crash fall in connection with an Orange County Transportation bus, authorities said.
The clash took place around 6:45am on Saturday near Orangethorpe Avenue and State University Boulevard, the Fullerton Police Department reported.
Police say a white Tesla went east through the Orange Thorpe, passing through a red light at the intersection, struck the grey passenger seat of a 1991 Toyota pickup truck, and then the passenger side of the bus.
Officers found a truck with moderate passenger side damage just north of the intersection. Tesla had major front-end damage and the bus slowly reduced damage to the driver’s side just south of the intersection, police said.
The adult female Tesla passenger was declared dead at the scene. The paramedics rushed the driver to the hospital, where he later died of injuries.
“The Octabus driver involved in the Toyota pickup and collision remained on the scene and worked with investigators,” according to a police statement. “Five passengers on the octabus were taken to a community hospital where they had minor injuries.”
Fullerton police urged anyone with information about the crash to call 714-738-6812. Anonymous tips can be created at Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-847-6227.
