Details of the shooter who fired fire at Border Patrol agents at annex in McAllen, Texas, remained in moderation in days as attacks on federal immigration officials are on the rise.

Authorities confirmed that 27-year-old Ryan Louis Mosqueda was killed at the scene as a suspect on Monday.

“Both the Border Patrol and local police helped neutralize the shooters,” a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security said Monday. “Two officers, including one knee, and Border Patrol employee were injured. All three went to the hospital. This is an ongoing investigation led by the FBI.”

However, the shooter’s motives remain unknown, with Texas police chief Victor Rodriguez having no additional information to share with reporters at Monday’s press conference on why Mosqueda fired fire on agents.

The McAllen Police Department, Texas, did not immediately respond to a Fox News digital request for details.

Rodriguez said the gunman fired “dozens of dozens” rounds at McAllen’s customs and border security at Texas station. Mosqueda was affiliated with a Michigan address, and his car had a Michigan license plate.

However, Rodriguez said Mosqueda was reported missing from his address in Weslaco, Texas, within 20 miles, and that “an hour and several minutes later he was in this particular location and fired in a federal building.”

Mosqueda’s brother Joe told the WDIV local local in Detroit that he never witnessed the brothers talking about immigration issues or Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE), but suspected they were dealing with undiagnosed mental health challenges.

“All of a sudden,” Joe Mosqueda told the outlet. “I don’t know if he was intentionally targeting him. I don’t know. I think it was a mental health issue.”

Joe Mosqueda or other family members were unable to contact us immediately due to comments via email or telephone by Fox News Digital.

The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security did not respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

The Department of Homeland Security reported that assaults against ice officials and other federal immigration agents had risen by almost 700% compared to 2024 in early July.

Other recent episodes of violence against law enforcement include another shooting near Ice’s Prairiland detention facility on Friday. There, a Texas police officer was shot in the neck. The Justice Department announced Tuesday that 10 people will face charges in the shootings.

“We certainly ask Democrats to settle their rhetoric against ice and border patrol agents, again, every day men and women,” White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt told reporters Monday.

“These are honorable Americans who are simply trying to work to enforce the law. They go home to their families every night, as we all do. They deserve respect and dignity for enforcing our country’s immigration laws and trying to eliminate the threat of public safety from our community.”

D-Wash. Lawmakers, including Pramila Jayapal of the group, have issued harsh statements about Ice in recent weeks. Jayapal accused her of acting “like a terrorist” in June and defended her comments in an interview with CNN on July 2 after the White House demanded an apology from lawmakers.

Rep. Michael Guest, who oversees the House Homeland Security Committee’s subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement, said in a statement Wednesday in Fox News Digital that “radical anti-law enforcement rhetoric” has prompted an increase in crime against federal immigrant employees.

“This dangerous rhetoric from the far left puts the safety of Greene’s men and women. Violence against law enforcement is unacceptable,” Greene said. “The Homeland Security Committee is in close contact with the DHS regarding this attack on our law enforcement agencies and will assist in investigating the FBI directors and their motivations.”
