Detectives discovered the vehicle was being used as a getaway vehicle, leading to the 16-year-old suspect, authorities wrote in a news release. The suspect is a minor, so authorities will not disclose his name.
Yaghoubi’s brother and store owner Jim Yaghoubi told ABC-7 that he and his brother continued to shoplift in the car park after they left without paying a box of $10 masks. A physical argument continued. Yaghoubi told the news outlet that one of the shoplifters punched his brother into his head before the driver ran through him.
“I don’t know why this happened. Honestly, I was there at the last moments of his life. I saw his face. I saw his eyes,” Yaghoubi told ABC-7.
Authorities are still trying to identify several other individuals who were in the vehicle at the time of theft.
