Officers shot and killed a man who lifted a shirt and wielded a weapon late Saturday in Orange County, police say.
A press release issued by the Fullerton Police Department says that authorities were first dispatched to the 700 block of West Orange Thorpe Drive at 11:51pm regarding household disability.
“The reporting party told Cole Taker that his 19-year-old brother had a knife and waving it to his father,” the press release said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they contacted the 19-year-old outside the residence on the sidewalk. He did not follow the directions of the officers, and after some orders he lifted his shirt and removed “what appears to be a gun” from his waistband.

At that moment, officers fired fire, Fullerton police said.
After the shooting, officers began life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. However, the suspect was declared dead at the scene.

“The pellet gun, similar to the Smith & Wesson handgun, was on the scene near the subject,” authorities said. “No other parties or officers were injured.”
The 19-year-old’s identity will be released by the Orange County Coroner.

Videos from scenes obtained by KTLA show not only questions about mothers, but other items scattered along the sidewalk, but their connection to the incident is unknown.

Police said the initial 911 call showed that there could have been other witnesses or victims in the suspect’s actions leading up to the incident. For each standard protocol, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office conducts an investigation into the actions of officers involved in the case. Detectives from the Fullerton Police Crimes angs Persons Unit will also investigate potential criminal behavior by suspects.
According to state law, all relevant videos, recordings and images of the incident will be released in 45 days.
