The man, described by lawmakers as “a person believed to have shot and killed a male adult and killed a Baldwin Park police officer,” was taken into custody on Saturday – the night of the shooting – LASD said Tuesday.
He was identified as 22-year-old Eduardo Roberto Medina Belomen.
Medina-Bermen is booked on suspicion of two counts of murder, LASD said, and he remains hospitalized on Tuesday in a stable condition. Upon discharge from the hospital, he is transferred to a prison facility.

Baldwin Park Police Station officials responded Saturday at around 7:15pm by calling a man firing a rifle into the street in the 4200 block of Philharmonicles Avenue. On arrival they were shot by suspects, according to LA County Sheriff Robert Luna.
One of the first responders to be shot and killed, Samuel “Sam” Liberos of Baldwin Park Police Station, was airlifted to USC Memorial Hospital, where he died of his wounds. Another officer in that department, Anthony Pimentel, was also shot dead, but was later released from the hospital.
Authorities also found a man suffering from a gunshot wound in the area. He was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead, and investigators believe the individual, who has not been officially identified, was also fatally shot by Medina Bellmen.
Officer Samuel Liberos is seen in a photo released by Baldwin Park Police Station.
