Actress René Victor, who voiced the character Abuelita in Pixar’s popular 2017 film “Coco,” and co-starred in the Showtime series “Weed,” passed away at Sherman Oaks’ home surrounded by her family. She was 86 years old.
A relative said Victor died Saturday from lymphoma, a type of blood cancer.
“Rene was loved by many and had fans all over the world,” her daughters, Raquel Victor and Margo Victor, said in a statement. “Her memory will be cherished by everyone who knows her.”
Other notable roles for Victor included “er”, voicework in the animated series “Adams Family”, and recurring roles with Robert Duval in “Doctor”, “Doctor”, “Doctor”, “Doctor” and “Old Mexico Night”.
In the 1970s, she held the KTLA public relations program “Pacesetters,” and from 1963 to 1973 performed with her husband, Ray Victor, as a duo called Latin Sonny and Cher.
On July 25th, 1938, Rene Pianza, a native of San Antonio, from Texas, moved to Los Angeles in the 1960s. Before attempting acting, she worked as a singer alongside popular bandleaders Xavier Kugatto and Perez Prado, as well as dance instructors who specialize in tango and salsa.
Pixar representatives noticed Victor passed away late Saturday in an Instagram post.
“We are heartbroken by hearing our voices, as Rene Victor’s. [of] The incredible part of the Abuelita and the Pixar family in “Coco.” We always remember you. ”
Survivors include two daughters. Her husband, actor singer Ray Victor, passed away in 2019.
