The deadline is approaching very soon, so just over a month remains to get your actual ID.
From May 7th, you will be required to enter the government building and through airport security. Domestic travelers can present their passports if they do not have a new identification.
The Ministry of Motor Vehicles also accepts federally approved documents in place of an actual ID or passport. However, it encourages the public to obtain a real ID for convenience.
In order to apply for ID, individuals must present a document showing their date of birth and full legal name in the DMV. Accepted documents include a valid US passport, birth certificate, permanent resident card, and more.
Applicants can complete and upload documents online and take them to the DMV for confirmation.
Officials say that actual IDs help prevent fraudulent identification, but limit the types of migrants with irregular status to be used for flights. This ID is only available to US citizens, legal permanent residents, and those with a valid visa or work permit.
The May deadline comes after years of delays.
