White House Communications Director Stephen Chan tackled the nationwide “no-kings” protest on Saturday, describing it as “a complete and total failure that was extremely present.”
Thousands of planned protests that remained peaceful as the Army’s 250th anniversary parade began followed a week of violent anti-ice protests in Los Angeles and other cities.

The governor warns anti-Trump “king” protesters to be violent: “You’ll be arrested.”
No Kings organizers chose to hold demonstrations on the same day as the military parade, coinciding with President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday.
“It’s sad Democrats and liberals support criminals and illegals instead of celebrating the 250th anniversary of our great US military and flag day,” Chen wrote in the X-Post. “But more Americans are commemorating the brave military and women who have given them the ultimate sacrifice and those who continue to serve our country.”

Republican lawmakers cheered on the effort and described it as an “incredible opportunity” to showcase the strength, discipline and teamwork of the US military.
“It is an honor to support service members in our country’s capital,” said R-Ga. Senator Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote in the X-Post. “Thank you to all men and women in uniform for your dedication and service to our country!”

But Democrats have mostly criticised the Army celebrations, citing the costs, claiming it was an excuse to celebrate Trump’s birthday.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom spoke shortly after the parade began on Saturday, saying the celebration “should exist.”

“Our service members are heroes,” Newsom wrote to X:
Minutes later, Newsom’s Press Office posted a photo of the event and captioned, “This is the biggest presidential birthday party ever.”

Despite the divisive rhetoric about the event, the US Army stated that the parade “remindes us that we were always there for America. We always do so. This is what we protect.”
