The bank robber became a crime novelist after two more alleged robbers.

The 41-year-old Detroit native is a crime novelist who published eight fiction works in his name, one of which was announced this year, and is being held after two more robbers allegedly robbed, according to multiple media reports.

In 2005, Dorian Trevor Sykes was sentenced to 17 years in prison for robbing the Third Bank’s Detroit branch in December 2002 and for winning nearly $200,000, when he and his two accomplices won, Detroit News reported.

According to the outlet, about six weeks after his release in 2019, Sykes took two more banks in two suburban Detroit cities, Oak Park and Warren, and escaped for just over $2,000.

He was arrested a day later at a crapstable inside Motor City Casino and was wearing the same clothes he wore while robbing two banks.

Sykes was later sentenced to more than five years for these robberies.

He reportedly did most of his writing while he was in prison.

“During his long incarceration, he wrote some very notable street novels, including his all-out trilogy,” reads Burns & Noble Bio, 41. “Sykes, who currently lives in Detroit, is constantly working to provide new hot materials to his readers.”

Sykes, who was released from prison again in February 2024, did not immediately return to the Robbery Bank.

Until March 6th of this year, the 41-year-old moved to one of the credit unions in Sterling Heights, a suburb of Detroit, giving the teller an unreadable note before saying, “This is a robbery,” and demanding a massive bill.

Terror handed him $10,169 and the suspect escaped.

In a criminal charge filed by Matthew Willard, an eyewitness, a Sterling Heights police officer assigned to the FBI’s Macomb County Gang and Violent Crime Task Force, said the robber suspect fled the black crossover vehicle, perhaps a Mercedes area.

Court records from October 2024 showed that Sykes received a traffic quote on a black Mercedes. Additionally, his probation officer – Sykes, had been subject to supervised release for his previous bank robbery – confirmed he drove a black Mercedes. The fingerprints pulled from the credit union’s main entrance also reportedly matched Sykes.

Six days after the robbery, on March 12, the suspect who met Sykes’ explanation entered Chase Bank in Raslup Village, a suburb of Detroit, telling Terror that he was gestured at his hip, “Give me all the money. I have a gun. I’ll kill everyone here.”

The suspect left the bank for $3,400.

Surveillance cameras nearby caught an individual running behind the condo complex and fleeing in a white Rolls-Royce SUV.

Sykes’ mobile phone records showed that he was using his mobile phone near Sterling Heights Bank on the day of the robbery on March 6th. Records also showed him a call near Chase Bank on the day of the robbery on March 12, criminal charges alleges.

Three hours after robbing Chase Bank, the 41-year-old was tracked down by law enforcement to the MGM Grand Casino, where officers found him in a white Rolls-Royce SUV. According to the FBI, he ran away when an officer tried to pull him.

Detroit News says it is unclear exactly how and where he was taken into custody, but the court application shows he was arrested by March 18th.
