The beaten body of a boy found in the trash can, mother ex-in-law was charged with his death

He said he was filed Friday against a man accused of beating his ex-girlfriend’s 5-year-old son, saying he left the body in a trash can in Panorama City last week.

Brixon Gadis, 20, was arrested Wednesday and faces a potential sentence for life in the prison for Eliziah Hahn’s malicious death, if convicted, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors charged him with murder and assault on a child that caused his death, authorities said.

“This is a truly heartbreaking and terrifying case, and our deepest sympathy comes to the families of our young victims,” Dist. Atty. Nathan Hochman said in a statement. “We are committed to seeking justice and we assure that this defendant is responsible for his actions.”

Gaddis did not issue a petition while appearing in a short courthouse at Van Nice, but he returned to court next month, officials said.

Prosecutors allege that Gaddis beat the boy in his apartment in the 14,500 block of Lanark Avenue on July 11. The next day, the day after prosecutors described it as a “commercial parking dumpster.”

Law enforcement officials previously told The The Times that the boy suffered “major injuries” including a broken jaw, a broken rib and a torn liver. The official spoke about the state of anonymity as they were not allowed to speak to the media.

Gaddis and the boy’s mother, Kemia Hearn, have dated On and Off in the past, but Gaddis was not the boy’s father. Troy Hearn Sr., the victim’s grandfather, said Gaddis had stalked his daughter.

“It’s very heartbreaking for him to do that to my five-year-old grandson,” Hearn Sr. said earlier this week. “I’m identifying my body this afternoon. I’m overwhelmed and angry so I can’t even explain it. This guy is a bad guy and I’m lucky that the police have him.”

Gaddis has protected police custody multiple times in the past year, but he avoided two ju trials that could have been sent to prisons and prisons. His arrest warrant was issued three months before the murder, records show.

Last July, prosecutors accused Gaddis and two others of carjacking someone at a “metal bar” in Baldwin Park. However, the case was dismissed in mid-December, when prosecutors announced that it could not proceed on Gaddis’s preliminary hearing day, according to court records.

Court records do not provide additional details as to why the prosecutors were unable to proceed. Gaddis had been in jail for six months at the time, but was released soon after. A spokesman for the District Attorney’s Office did not provide an explanation.

Six weeks later, Gadis was arrested by Los Angeles police for repeatedly punching his girlfriend in a Hollywood apartment. The victim in that case was not Elizia’s mother, records show.

Gaddis was charged with domestic violence and false imprisonment, but was allowed to remain free while wearing an electronic surveillance device. In April, Gaddis did not appear in court for a scheduled trial, so the judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

A month later, his electronic monitoring equipment was running out of power and he ignored check-in calls from the company that issued the device, records show. An alert has been sent to the LA County Probation Department.

The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office has introduced the questions to the Los Angeles Police Department. The Los Angeles Police Department did not answer questions about the measures it took to recapture Gaddis after defeating the trial day. However, given Gaddis had no criminal history after the carjacking case was dismissed, it is unlikely that police would arrest the accused they wanted on a misdemeanor bench warrant.

Vicki Waters, a spokesman for the probation department, said Gaddis was “not under aggressive supervision” by the agency as his case has not yet been awarded.

“Probation does not play an enforcement role in these circumstances,” Waters said.

Staff writer Summerlin contributed to this report.
