Exclusive: Wyoming’s Republican Secretary celebrated after becoming the first nation to pass a law requiring evidence of citizenship to vote. During his interview with Fox News Digital, he called it a “great” development for election integrity.
“The bill is also evidence of citizenship to register a vote and evidence of residence to register a vote. It is a top priority of the conservative election integrity reform agenda brought to the 2025 general session, requiring that the state iron is actually carved into the national law that carries the requirements for citizenship.
“Wyoming is exempt from the National Voter Registration Act, meaning evidence of citizenship requirements can be applied to all races, and is quite strong in that election judges do not calculate that they can override the requirements.
The action required for voters to present one of nine different options to prove citizenship and residence will become law on July 1 after Wyoming’s Republican Gov. Mark Gordon allowed it to become a bill without his signature last Friday.

Fox News Digital spoke to Secretary of State Wyoming, Chuck Grey this week.
In a letter to Gray, Gordon said he could not sign the bill due to several concerns, including legal issues, but admitted that it would provide “useful improvements” that would ultimately allow it to become law without signing.
Gray told Fox News Digital that he is confident that the law cannot withstand any legal challenges, calling it “a big moment of election integrity to become the first state to actually provide this iron-crowded citizenship requirement.”
“This is President Trump’s number one priority, and we are 100% supporter of President Trump,” Gray said. “The people of Wyoming are a huge winner here and I think it will have a huge impact nationwide through this at the state level. I’m very excited to see it bring in the next few weeks on the Washington House of Representatives floor.”

“It coincides with President Trump’s commitment to save law at the federal level,” Gray told Fox News Digital.
Trump is a defender of the American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act safeguards, preventing non-citizens from voting in federal elections. Republican lawmakers recently updated their push to move the bill through Congress.
On Tuesday, Trump signed an executive order that required people to provide evidence of American citizenship when registering for the ballot, requiring that all votes be reviewed by Election Day.

The order requires government-issued evidence of US citizenship on voter registration forms, directs the Attorney General to enter into information sharing agreements with state election officials, identifies cases of election fraud or other violations of election laws, and applies federal election-related funds for states that comply with federal election consolidation measures.
“There are other steps we’ll take in the coming weeks,” Trump said just before signing the order. “I think we can get a fair election.”
