Firefighters continued to fight a fast-moving canyon fire Friday morning, burning near the line in Ventura Los Angeles County, causing thousands of people to flee their homes.
As of 6:30 a.m., the flames have burned about 4,856 acres since erupting near Holther Canyon north of the pill on Thursday afternoon, according to the Ventura County Fire. Containment remains at 0%, with over 400 staff working overnight in steep terrain and hot and dry conditions.
Until late Thursday night, the fire spread east into Los Angeles County, threatening communities at Hasley Canyon, Valverde and Hathaway Ranch. Hazardously burning flames were seen near homes and boat storage facilities along Hasley Canyon Road.
“It’s pretty devastating. My wife took off with my pet,” one resident told KTLA. “I could feel the warmth from here… you’re not grateful for much more than these firefighters do directly with you, and how valuable they are really.”
Another evacuee said she was grateful to see her home still standing when checking her security cameras. “It’s all still there. You can see the firefighters in the front yard. But that’s a huge blessing.”
KTLA’s Erin Myers reported from the scene early on Friday that he was watching video of at least one structure burning, but has yet to release the number of damaged or destroyed homes and buildings. There were no reports of injuries.

A video obtained by KTLA shows the fire burning on the hill behind Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, spreading smoke into the Santa Clarita Valley.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
