The driver who crashed while trying to escape police in Simi Valley on Monday night faces multiple charges, including child risk, after a 10-year-old passenger broke his arm.
The incident occurred before 8:30pm when officers tried to attract the driver to stop at the posted stop signs of Simitown Centerway and Jefferson East.
“When officers were about to stop traffic, the driver turned off the headlights on the vehicle and fled south on Ellinger Road,” police said.
When it turned out to be a two-minute chase, police say the suspect ran some red lights before striking into a parked car near Ellinger Road and Covington Avenue.
Police learned that the driver, identified as 23-year-old Los Angeles resident Juan Angel Martinez, has three passengers in the vehicle, including his mother, siblings and a 10-year-old brother.
“The 10-year-old suffered a broken arm and additional injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital by AMR staff,” police said.
Martinez Martinez and two other passengers were also taken to a nearby hospital to treat minor injuries.
Martinez Martinez was ultimately booked on multiple felony charges, including evasion of a peace officer causing injury, reckless driving during evasion, child danger, and three other vehicle code violations related to evasion of a peace officer.
