Less than a day later, when city workers painted the second street tunnel, the long Lagraffiti Haven, Tagger once again covered the iconic tunnel walls, according to an Instagram post.
Video footage posted by user @graffvv appeared to show the driver was spraying new graffiti on a blank wall when he drove.
“Within 24 hours when the second street tunnel in downtown Los Angeles painted sterile white for the first time in over six months, the city’s graffiti underground came to life,” the user posted. “What was a clean slate at noon was a living gallery of Street Expression by midnight, filled with painted signatures from Burners, Rollers and LA’s most famous Vandals.”
City officials, which ended in 1924, did not immediately respond to investigations on whether or when to repaint the walls of the tunnel running from South Figuero A Street to Hill Street.
The 1,500-foot White Tile Tunnel is an LA landmark featured in Hollywood films such as the sci-fi epic “Blade Runner” and the biopic drama “The Soloist.” It is also a popular location for automotive commercials, with over 70 shots between 2006 and 2009.
