Democrat Sen. Sheldon White House faced an immediate blow Thursday in response to a social media post comparing the explosion of Democrat colleagues at a press conference to civil rights pioneer and late Congressman John Lewis.

Sen. Alex Padilla (Sen. D-Calif.) was forced to remove, and Los Angeles Sen. Christa Noem, the Department of Homeland Security, was forced to be removed and handcuffed at a press conference held by Homeland Security’s Department of Anti-Ice Riot.

Lewis was a major figure, including being arrested more than 40 times during the civil rights movement, speaking at many notable moments in the era, including the freedom vehicle, speaking in a march in Washington and taking part in Selma in Alabama’s Montgomery Marine.

GOP Rep. Burgess Owens, who grew up in Jim Crow South, was one of many people who had problems with comparisons.

“We’re going to talk about cheap, awakening insults,” Owens told Fox News Digital. “As someone who grew up in segregation deep south, I can tell you: comparing this political stunt to the courage of the civil rights movement is offensive, wrong and shameful.”

The post was criticized by conservatives on social media.

“Sit down this,” posted on X by White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields.

“Are you insane?” Fox News host Lawrence Jones posted on X.

Sen. Alex Padilla, a California Democrat, was removed from her room on June 12, 2025, after a press conference with Homeland Security’s Department of Crista Noem at the Wilshire Federal Building in Los Angeles.

“That reminds me – how about your white-only beach club?” Federalist editor-in-chief Molly Hemingway has been posted on X to refer to his membership at an exclusive sailing club in Rhode Island, which reportedly reportedly allowed only white members.

“Neither is permitted at Sheldon’s All White Beach Club,” Republican communicator Matt Whitlock posted on X.

The White House denied that the club has “exclusive membership rules,” but acknowledged that it “lack of diversity” and apologised for “the lack of diversity in sailing clubs.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to the White House office for comment.

R-Ga. “It’s rude to compare it by the White House Senators alone, but it brings to an exclusive all-white country club from a man with membership,” Senator Andrew Clyde told Fox News in a statement.

“The morally bankrupt Democrats seem willing to go on to extreme lengths to justify Sen. Padilla’s pathetic political stunts, including comparing his inappropriate explosion to John Lewis’ heroic fight for civil rights,” he said.

Padilla, the first Latino elected to the Senate from California, sparked a media fire on Thursday in a press conference in which he said his office was about to ask Noem questions before he was “forced by federal agents, forced to the ground and handcuffed.”

Officers took Padilla to the ground, then quickly spread among Capitol Hill lawmakers, and videos quickly spread out of the senators watching the sight unfold on the Senate floor.

Democrats universally condemned the level of force used to remove Padilla and marched into the offices of both House Speaker Mike Johnson and Sen. John Tune (Sen. John Tune, Rs.D.) in protest.

Some demanded that Gnome resign from her post.

“Christie Noem should not have been appointed to that office,” said Democrat Sen. Adam Schiff of California. “She should resign from the office. There should be an investigation into the conduct of these officers.”

The reaction on the other side of the aisle is primarily on the same page, with Senate majority Whip John Baraso, R-Wyo. accusing Padilla of making “their own view,” questioning why he didn’t win Senate votes.

Others wanted to know if a crime was committed, like Sen. Bernie Moreno of R-Ohio, who was hosting the Senate floor when the video began the round.

“In fact, Democrats are people who like to say no one above the law,” he told Fox News Digital. “It’s a bit ironic considering that now the FBI has raided the former president’s house and they cheered.
