NASCAR officials moved their start time to the eastern eastern part earlier this week due to possible rain. The “Great American Race” was delayed on the sixth Sunday in the last 14 years. This is a nasty trend in NASCAR. Heavy rain and winding up to 40 mph is expected in the afternoon, and the 2 1/2 mile speedway takes at least two hours to dry out, so the drivers, crew and spectators spent a long day.

Race fans hit a product stand trying to stay crowded or dry under the covered bar area. The main merchandise store poncho sold for $8, and a steady stream of fans snatched one, or even a handful, from the basket.
