The Director of National Intelligence (DNI) and the Attorney General will be releasing the proposed plan on Friday to declassify the JFK files.
Both offices will need to coordinate with the National Security Agency’s president’s assistant and the president’s lawyer to announce the proposed plan until the end of Friday.
Last month, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to confidentialize files relating to the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert F. Kennedy and civil rights icon Martin Luther King I did.

Trump initially had promised to release the final batch of documents during his first term, but such efforts eventually dissipated. Trump then blocked the release of hundreds of records on assassinations, following several CIA and FBI appeals.

“I have no choice,” Trump said in the memo, where he cited “potentially irreversible harm” if he allowed the record to be released. At the time, Trump said that potential harm to US national security, law enforcement or diplomacy was “gravity enough to outweigh the public interest of immediate disclosure.”

Attorney General Pam Bondy, sworn in Wednesday, is in New Orleans, Louisiana, to investigate Super Bowl LIX security. Bondi’s first day is part of an effort to highlight the administration’s broader commitment to cracking down on violent crime and terrorist acts.
