Which team has the highest MLB franchise in 2025?
CNBC has released a complete list of this year’s MLB franchise rating, sorting team value, 2024 revenue and more. Some teams are in the expected spot, while others are even more surprising.
Where are the Dodgers and the Angels?
The New York Yankees rank number one on CNBC’s list. Owned by the Steinbrenner family, New York is the top of the rankings at a value of $8 billion, a lead of over $2 billion from the next best team.
And when the Yankees took over in 1973, how much did Stein Brenner’s family pay the Yankees? Only $8.8 million. The team raised $755 million in revenue last season alone.
The Dodgers rank second and are valued at $5.8 billion. The renowned franchise was purchased in 2021 for $2 billion by the current high spending ownership team.
The Angels check in at No. 11 with a $2.7 billion valuation. The Anaheim team was purchased in 2003 for $183.5 million.
The third is the Boston Red Sox, owned by John Henry and Thomas Werner. The pair bought the team in 2022 for $380 million, and now the franchise is worth $4.7 billion.
The top five are the Chicago Cubs ($4.45 billion) and the San Francisco Giants ($3.8 billion).
Flip it over to the bottom five, with the exception of one surprise, it’s mostly a small market franchise group. All teams are valued at least over $1 billion, but this is true in the NHL.
On the 26th, there will be $1.5 billion worth of Cincinnati Reds. The Reds are followed by the Pittsburgh Pirates ($1.47 billion), the Kansas City Royals ($1.45 billion), and the Tampa Bay Rays ($1.4 billion).
Finally, there is the Miami Marlins, worth $1.2 billion. Despite being in a considerable market, American businessman Bruce Sherman bought the team in 2017 for the same price ($1.2 billion), but did not see any change in value.
Miami generated just $296 million in revenue last season, making it 62-100 on the field. Currently, only athletics ($275 million) that is temporarily based in Sacramento ahead of the planned Las Vegas move is ranked low in revenue.
