Commuters noticed a computer problem knocked out services to a local train system on Friday morning and then were stuck at a Bay Area train station.
According to BART alerts, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) has been completely suspended before 4:30am on Friday.
“Due to computer networking issues, BART services have been widely shut down until further notice,” BART officials shared on Alert. “Look for alternatives to transportation.”
It was not clear when the issue would be resolved.
Systemwide Bart Meltdown caused confusion on commutes in the San Francisco Bay Area. Transit data shows that the heavy rail line that connects San Francisco to Oakland with five of the region’s most populous counties is used by more than 150,000 commuters in the mornings most weekday.
Commuters scramble to make separate arrangements, increasing traffic across the Bay Bridge, and ride-sharing services like Uber reported higher fares due to increased demand.
BART officials encouraged riders to find a transport alternative on the site.
Transport hosts in the area tried to seek help from commuters. The San Francisco Bay Ferry System served the largest ferries and urged people in need of transportation from Oakland, Alameda, Richmond and Vallejo to take them. AC Transit, the East Bay bus system, transported passenger-filled buses to Salesforce Transit Center via the Bay Bridge.
