Sheriff Robert Luna said local, federal and state officials are beginning to investigate the explosion at the East Los Angeles Sheriff’s training facility that killed three deputies Friday morning.
The unattacked explosion occurred at the Biscailuz Regional Training Center at 1060 N. Eastern Ave. around 7:30am, killing three longtime members of arson/explosive details.
“They are great experts and unfortunately I lost three today,” Luna said.
That loss of life marks the most fatal day of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office since 1857.
The identity of the three dead has not been released yet, but Luna said she was with LASD for 19, 22 and 33 years.

Luna added that despite some media reports, no one else has been injured.
An investigation into the explosion will be underway, Luna said.
“There are many things we don’t know more than we know,” he said. “But our intention is to look at this from the start and understand exactly what it was that caused this tragic event.”
The investigation begins imminently as the scene was deemed safe minutes before Luna’s 11:45am press conference.
However, the timing prevented Luna from answering many questions asked at the press conference, citing the need to determine facts before making an announcement.
“Women and everyone, we have just lost three lives,” he said. “We want to see what happened.”
