Westside current reports show that the powerful Los Angeles Politico was found to be in custody by federal authorities when he returned to the US from overseas travel.
Rick Taylor is the former chief of staff for longtime local leader Zev Yaroslavsky, and the company promotes him as the leader of “successful campaign scores.”
While his wife and daughter were briefly passing through customs, he was asked by an agent if he was from California. When he answered in the affirmative, he was pulled aside and “is 90% of Spanish-speaking people,” he said.
“It almost looked like a couple. Everyone seemed nervous,” he added. “And I don’t know why you’re there. No one will say anything to you.”
About an hour later he was released but no explanation was given for detention. At one point he remembered that he had an Obama brewed shirt in his bag.
“I actually started to panic,” he said. “I was like, ‘Oh my god, is this causing trouble for me in this country now?” ”
Taylor pointed out that his wife, born in Vietnam, was not taken into custody. Instead, he fears that it is his political tendencies that put him in danger.
Federal officials told current officials that people are undergoing additional screenings for “a variety of reasons.”
“If that could happen to someone like me, imagine how this should feel for someone white, old, plug in – people who don’t have English, people who don’t know their rights,” he said. “What will it affect them and their families?”
