The Fed says that a suspected catalytic converter shooting was illegally in the country

The suspect, who was arrested earlier this month in connection with a fatal shooting during the theft of a catalytic converter in Inglewood, faces a federal charge that allegedly re-entered the United States illegally after being deported.

Jose Christian Saravia Sanchez, 30, of El Salvador, was charged with being in the United States this week with illegal and illegal possession of a firearm, the US Lawyer’s office in Los Angeles announced Friday.

According to federal criminal charges, Saravia Sanchez was previously arrested by agents of the Texas Border Patrol on June 13, 2013 and ordered to be brought back to El Salvador.

Juan “Johnny” Sanchez, 48, was shot in the 1000 block of North Chester Avenue in Inglewood around 3:22am on February 25th.

Federal authorities said Saravia Sanchez eventually crossed the border and returned north.

Saravia-Sanchez served in prison for 242 days to take the vehicle without the consent of the owner after his felony conviction in LA Superior Court in May 2023.

Murder detectives with the Inglewood Police Department arrested Saravia Sanchez and Wilber Alberto Lavanares earlier this month.

The suspect was captured on surveillance cameras fleeing on a gold Toyota Camry with colored windows and sunroofs. Police chased them in their room at the Bell Manor Motel. Inglewood police ordered the exit to be exited before 10pm on March 6th, according to the complaint. Lavanales surrendered, but federal authorities said Saravia Sanchez was engaged in hours of standoffs.

Juan Sanchez’s family established a monument where he was murdered.

According to the complaint, the officers used chemical stimulants to force him out of the motel room. Inside, authorities said they found a Ruger .380 caliber pistol in a garbage can in the bathroom.

Juan Sanchez, a family of the shooting victims, described him as “a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather and a precious friend of many.”

“He was the kind of person who always put others in front of him and offered a hand of help, an ear listening to his ears, or a smile that could brighten up even on the darkest days,” Post said. “His strength, wisdom and generosity are the foundation of his family, leaving a void that will never be satisfied.”

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office office, federal prosecutors have also released charges against 15 people allegedly re-entering the United States.

Federal authorities say that the discovery in the United States after its removal is sentenced to up to two years in prison. People who were convicted of a felony, convicted of up to 10 years, then convicted of an aggravated felony, then deleted up to 20 years.

Times staff writer Clara Harter contributed to this report.
