Marina del Rey’s Magnet School was locked down Wednesday when a 13-year-old student was allegedly discharged from the hospital in classrooms.
The incident occurred around 8:30am at Westside Global Awareness Magnet School, in the 100 block of East Anchorage Street.
“It is said that students drained firearms in the classroom today and then fled campus. Students and staff were not injured,” a spokesman for the Los Angeles Unified School District said in a message to the Magnet School community.
“Students and staff are safe. The school’s police and district are on campus. At this time, there is no immediate threat to students,” the family was told by the district.
The lockdown was lifted after officers swept over campus.

Law enforcement told the Los Angeles Times that a gun may have been accidentally discharged from inside a teenage student’s backpack.
“As a reminder, students should not bring dangerous items to school.
Los Angeles School Police will provide on-campus assistance and additional patrols for the rest of the week.
A Zoom meeting to share more information was also scheduled for late Wednesday afternoon.
