Authorities announced Sunday that they had concluded their first phase of response in the ongoing search that Southern California hikers were last seen missing on June 22.

“A week ago today, Monica Leza went missing while hiking near Mount Waterman in the Angeles National Forest,” read a message from acting captain Ryan A. Vienna for Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Cressenda Valley Station. “While today marks the initial response phase of this operation, the investigation will continue by the Homicide Bureau: Missing Persons Unit.”

The public and numerous members of multiple rescue teams participated in a search for a 60-year-old hiker who was considered at risk. According to LASD, Reza has no health conditions that contribute to her loss of failure. Her family and loved ones have not heard from her since then and are very concerned about her happiness.

Monica Reza, 60, was reported missing on June 22, 2025 after departing for a hike in the Angeles National Forest. Search and rescue teams were deployed on the ground and in the air. (Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office)

Reza, a LA County resident, is said to be a white woman who is 4 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 101 pounds. She has brown eyes and gray hair. She finally wore a red long-sleeved shirt, green hiking pants and hiking shoes (pictured above).

“Our hearts are directed at Monica’s family, friends, colleagues and the community who expressed great concern over her loss,” the Vienna statement continued. “We are grateful to the large number of members of the masses who reached out to get involved in the search. It is important to understand the area where Monica went missing, and it is extremely technical and difficult for inexperienced hikers. Given that this is a continuous investigation, we ask that we avoid actively searching for this area.

Anyone who knows where Reza is or has information about her lost beer will be asked to call the LASD Missing Persons Unit at 323-890-5500. Citizens can also call detective Rincon at 818-248-3464 or 323-890-5500.

Those who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit the lacrimestoppers.org website.
